Where Are We?
Skillslocal is situated in Furness Vale, on the edge of the Peak District in the High Peak, North Derbyshire.
We are just a mile from the start of the Dark Peak, and four miles from Hayfield – the beginning of the route up to Kinder Scout – site of the Kinder Mass Trespass which led to the creation of the National Parks.
The Peak District National Park, the first of Britain’s 15 National Parks, was founded in 1951, with 1,600 miles of public rights of way. Its distinctive symbol is the gritstone wheel – used for milling. It is still possible to find abandoned wheels on some of the gritstone edges.
Furness Vale is a small village on the A6 between Buxton and Stockport. skillslocal is situated on the edge of the Furness Vale Business Park (a former cotton printing works from the 1800s), reached along a cobbled road, Calico Lane.
We are just two miles, downriver, from Whaley bridge – famous for the Toddbrook Reservoir Dam failure in August, 2019.
